Ruth CheesleySuffolk Business Netwalking - 7th July @ 12 noon

Ruth Cheesley 06.07.2010 16:02 0 0

UK Healthzone are organising the first Suffolk Business Netwalking event on Wednesday, 7th July 2010 at 12 noon.

What is Netwalking?

Netwalking it a combination of networking with other business people while getting some exercise, fresh air, and enjoying the beautiful Suffolk countryside.

Who can take part?

Anyone can take part, but you need to be able to walk approximately 1 mile, at a slow to moderate pace.  While there are clear paths, sensible shoes are advised.  Unfortunately this particular route is unsuitable for wheelchairs however we are hoping to find other routes which are suitable for all.

What's in it for me?

You get to meet other business people in a less formal setting, while getting your minimum suggested 30 minutes of exercise per day.  You also get to explore some beautiful countryside, and enjoy a picnic at the end of the walk.

What does it cost?

The event is free, however we do ask participants to bring something to share in the picnic afterwards - preferably something healthy!

Where is it?

The meeting point is the Orwell Country Park car park.  To access the car park there is a long driveway which is accessible by turning off Nacton Road near to the A14 roundabout here (marked "A"): Google Maps - just after you cross the bridge over the A14, turn right and follow the road down to the Orwell Country Park car park (marked "B")

How can I book?

Please visit our Events section to book.  While not compulsory, we do like to have an idea of numbers to ensure we have enough leaders, and also to ensure that nobody is running late who might be attending the event.  You can book at http://www.ukhealthzone.co.uk/seminar-7.

Ruth CheesleyUK Healthzone sign the Mindful Employers Charter

Ruth Cheesley 23.06.2010 13:53 0 0

As part of our ongoing commitment to the health and wellbeing of our workforce, UK Healthzone has signed the Charter for Employers who are Postive About Mental Health. This means that:

As an employer we recognise that:
  • People who have mental health issues may have experienced discrimination in recruitment and selection procedures. This may discourage them from seeking employment.

  • Whilst some people will acknowledge their experience of mental health issues in a frank and open way, others fear that stigma will jeopardise their chances of getting a job.

  • Given appropriate support, the vast majority of people who have experienced mental ill health continue to work successfully as do many with ongoing issues.

As an employer we aim to:
  • Show a positive and enabling attitude to employees and job applicants with mental health issues. This will include positive statements in local recruitment literature.

  • Ensure that all staff involved in recruitment and selection are briefed on mental health issues and the Disability Discrimination Act, and given appropriate interview skills.

  • Make it clear in any recruitment or occupational health check that people who have experienced mental health issues will not be discriminated against and that disclosure of a mental health problem will enable both employee and employer to assess and provide the right level of support or adjustment.

  • Not make assumptions that a person with a mental health problem will be more vulnerable to workplace stress or take more time off than any other employee or job applicant.

  • Provide non-judgemental and proactive support to individual staff who experience mental health issues.

  • Ensure all line managers have information and training about managing mental health in the workplace.

To UK Healthzone this is not simply an award or a badge to make our advertisments and website look good, it is at the core of everything we do. If you would like to find out more about what we provide our staff, and how we can help you implement a similar system, please do get in touch!

Ruth CheesleyStress down day at UK Healthzone

Ruth Cheesley 14.05.2010 16:38 0 0

Pyjama PartyAt UK Healthzone we appreciate that sometimes the office environment can get a bit stressful, so we regularly hold a "stress down day" where we take part in fun activities and have a bit of a giggle.

On Wednesday, 19th May we are holding a "PJ Day" where we will be coming into work in our pyjamas (freshly washed and ironed!) and slippers - and will be starting the day off with a morning meditation at Basepoint Business Centre.

Any other businesses in the centre are welcome to join us in reducing stress in the workplace and enjoying a fun-filled day!

There will also be a prize for the best pair of PJ's and the best pair of slippers, so get washing!
